Some pictures of the snow. It was beautiful out here in the Glens and seemed to last longer than other areas. Sasta and Shadow loved every second of it.

However, getting the car in and out was interesting 🙃 Thankfully we didn't have many places to be.

Slow to post these as initially wasn't very happy with them. Have been having a few 'off' days when it comes to photography or maybe I'm just being overly harsh on myself. Who knows? The joys of it 😂

Shadow is now eight months old and is officially bigger, taller and heavier than Miss Sasta, much to her disgust.

Sasta just about tolerates other dogs but she LOVES puppies. Once they get older she stops losing interest. I'd love to do some puppy fostering for her as babies make her so happy but wouldn't know where to begin.

A rescue in my area has GSP puppies but my husband is being mean (well... sensible) and won't let me have two puppies at once 😂

This morning, we visited Glenarm Castle's dog park, and it was a really lovely experience overall. The grounds are beautifully maintained, and the whole area has a calm, peaceful atmosphere. One of the things I appreciated most was how quiet it was, but we were there very early, and the weather was atrocious on the way down, so I'm not sure if that's the norm for a Sunday morning.

Shadow and Sasta had a great time. There was plenty of room to run around, but we had to book all six slots to make sure we had it to ourselves. It would feel pretty cramped with six large dogs!

While we were lucky and had a great time, I wouldn’t recommend it for reactive dogs. While the park itself is lovely, there isn’t a lot of separation between areas, and the park itself is up a hill on a narrow path. The layout doesn’t offer many places to create distance if another dog approaches. Because of this, encounters can happen quickly, which can be stressful for dogs (and owners!) who need more controlled interactions.

In short, Glenarm Castle dog park is a charming, peaceful spot ideal for confident or easygoing dogs, but it may not be the best option if your dog is reactive or needs a bit more personal space.

A very frosty morning on the Dungonnell Way.

The road turned to pure ice on the way up, so we ditched the car and hiked the rest.

The dogs, of course, thought it was the best day ever. Frosty faces, endless zoomies, and energy fuelled by the cold. Trying to keep them from eating rabbit poop turned into a battle at one point however.

The whole area felt otherworldly, silver grass, sparkling ground, and total winter stillness. Even though we didn't reach the reservoir because trying to get up the track with the ice would have been lunacy, we had a great morning.

Just sharing a few snaps from a little picnic spot near home. It’s absolutely gorgeous this time of year — all peaceful, colourful, and scenic. I’m not entirely convinced it’ll be quite as charming in the dead of winter though… we’ll see 😂❄️

We’re heading out on a bigger adventure today, and Shadow is already vibrating with excitement. He had the zoomies at 6am like he knew something was up. Too bad we still have to wait until it gets light, one of winter’s many little joys 🙃

We can’t bring Sasta on long trips anymore because her joints aren’t what they used to be, and she’s almost completely blind now. New places can overwhelm her a bit. But she’s been to this spot before, and she tends to follow Shadow everywhere, so I’m pretty confident she’ll be happy and comfortable today. 🥰

Shadow’s grown a lot these past few months, not just in the obvious “no longer tripping over his own paws” way, but in that quiet, steady way dogs do when they start figuring out the world. He used to charge headfirst into every puddle, ditch, and suspicious-looking bush with zero strategy. Now he pauses, thinks, and then still charges in… but with intent. It counts as progress.

Watching him on the trail, moving with that mix of confidence and curiosity, I realised he’s turning into a genuinely good dog. Not perfect, he still believes all snacks are communal property, and his recall has good and bad days, but he’s settled into himself. There’s a calmness in him now, like he knows this place is his home and these walks are part of his job description.

Even though time moves on, we will never forget you.

Thank you for making me a better dog owner - for helping me develop an understanding of how many small motions can mean so many different things.

We didn't realise at the time how sick you were, but looking back retrospectively, the signs were there from a very young age. Your limited tail wags, your inability to jump, and, unfortunately, your aggression which only worsened as your body grew and your pain increased.

You have taught me so much, and now I hope you are pain-free, safe and asleep, beside the others in my special place.

We will never stop loving you.
